It’s out of print and whilst chatting (about a Wyatt piece I wrote!) to one of my mentors, the subject of Thomas Chatterton came up.Very highly regarded by the English Romantic poets, Chatterton is thought to be the first true Romantic poet. He was an interesting character - wrote poems in a medieval style, and passed them off as someone else’s and yet thought to be quite simple till about the age of 6. At 17, he committed suicide, not being able to maintain the lifestyle he enjoyed, in his London apartment.

And you thought rock and roll was wild.

So I find myself reading Grevel Lindop ed. Thomas Chatterton: Selected Poems, (Manchester: Carcanet/Fyfield, 2003 reprint). The edition generously lent to me is an older, out of print one but here’s a link to the current edition.

Also just finished reading a stack of comics from a series called Hunter: The Age of Magic. It continues the now finished Books of Magic series (if you read it, you can see hints of Harry Potter - and yes, BoM came first), and is the series before Books of Magic: Life During Wartime which sucks by comparison. I don’t know why Vertigo won’t publish the AoM series as a trade paperback. Half of every bloody comic in the series is made up of adverts - but more on that later.

I hear they are to defile the Books of Magic story/universe by making some part of it into a film. Groan.
