grown-up sweets

Over the last two days, I tested some lovely new stuff in an attempt to be a brunette bombshell. I kind of look like a 70s brunette pin-up, especially because the things I tried out are all shimmery and make me look oh-so-brown. At last! Better than consumptive pallid yellow.

graphic novels & conspiracy theories

Everything seems to come back to the Holy Grail and/or Templars at the moment.

I finished reading a graphic novel called Heaven’s War (published by Image Comics) and it’s supposed to be about Tolkien & C. S. Lewis (of Lord of the Rings and Narnia fame respectively) et al and a writing group they have back in their Oxford don days. Theories of time, theology, the Knights Templar, Merlin and Albion and even Aleister Crowley are also part of the mix. They’re all hunting for the Holy Grail.

a bunch of fun links

Bless my admin, who accidentally double-booked and spent yesterday evening with his girlfriend and rightfully so! He offered to compensate me with a lipgloss or bath product of my choice.

So it’s a Friday night, feeling very prepared for a life in spinsterhood (though it’s lonelier when one’s family is home, go figure), I browsed online at some lust-inducing bath products and stumbled upon a bunch of very funny links thanks to del.icio.us: am turning into a geek (as if I didn’t have enough social issues!).

pop culture just got hotter

I was up till the early hours of the morn not being able to sleep properly and watching various documentaries on cable TV. Let’s see, we had Crown and Country, a programme of Prince Edward (of England’s) showing off the various riches of the kingdom. Hampton Court being the feature of the episode I saw. He wrote and presented it and did a good job, was surprised. But not so surprised to learn that Hampton Court was built by a commoner who rose to prominence (Cardinal Wolsey) only to have it nicked by Henry VIII because he was a jealous so-and-so.

Before that, brief snippets of Albert Goehring, brother of Hitler’s deputy Hermann. Albert saved hundreds of Czech, Polish and German Jews using his brother’s name, he really put his life on the line to do so. Some people are amazing.

Then…the zombies.

cursed am I

Oh holy feck.

Not only did I see a real live gun shop for the first time the other day, but I’ve gone and broken my bridge.

The brand spanking new bridge on my brand spanking new viola da gamba (the funny early music instrument I play).

Arthurian legend leads to theology leads to…

This week, I had this extremely attractive alpha-male friend come and pay me a visit, and he has a very keen interest in the philosophy of religion, predominantly Christian. I was horrified to learn that the monk/ascetic lifestyle was somewhat desirable to him (he’s far too attractive to become a monk!) and he is now taking a brief break at…an abbey.

Christmas present

My poor ex-boyfriend, he took a nasty tumble whilst bike-riding thanks to some inconsiderate driver and he felt obliged to get me a Christmas present, albeit a good one.

I’m now the proud owner of Christopher Hibbert’s biography on George III of England. Will be excellent reading when I get to it but have to finish a bunch of other things first…

another year…

New Year came and went. Wow. It wasn’t as painfully depressing as I thought it would be despite
i. no longer having a significant other
ii. no longer being friends with my oldest friend
iii. having no job or money
iv. getting new medication for Christmas.

I only made one resolution: stop biting my lips so much, so it doesn’t look all skanky when I wear lipstick (like it did on New Year’s Eve!).

Despite all the shit of December 2005, I think this year is going to be a good year, a good year for me, at least.
