It’s not really totally musical but because music is a large part of it and I can’t put miniblog posts in more than one category, it’s in this one.
NMD once remarked to me that the band Tenacious D, consisting of Jack Black and another fellow of portly proportions (and I most certainly do not mean that in a nasty way, merely descriptive), was only liked and enjoyed by guys who were similarly fat, nerdy and in their 30s. It seemed quite amusing to me, that remark.
But untrue. A female friend who is as close as one can get to a true ethereal blonde beauty (I’m so not kidding) finds Tenacious D hilarious. Myself being the complete antithesis to this heavenly creature, finds Jack Black very amusing in the film The School of Rock, there are some memorable quotes in it as follows:
“No more secret songs?!”
“And the legend…of the rent…was way hardcore!”
Ok, so it’s definitely in the delivery and acting.
If you’ve not seen the film, there is a part where two schoolgirls approach Jack Black’s character Dewey Finn having come up with a name for their class rock band. Dewey has his chair leaning on two legs, back to the wall and is quietly strumming a tune, vocalising to himself.
I found out that this tune was actually the theme music to a cult series known as Computer Man, on Channel 101, which is an internet site, not a television channel.
Press my buttons and call me shallow but there is something exceedingly funny about seeing Jack Black with his protruding gut, computer keyboard upon chest, and monitor on head - made even more raucous by the fact that the guy is wearing Y-fronts. Brave bastard. If I had a gut like that, I wouldn’t even walk around in the comfort of my own home like that, let alone parade my paunch for all to see.
Watch the first three episodes, it’s nerd-hilarious. “There’s no…way you can stop…the school of raaa-wwk!!!”
