Last night, Halloween consisted of some divine Indian food at a local restaurant, bad ghost haunting ‘documentaries’ and explaining to my pal Rob that today would be All Souls’ Day. On Halloween, all the souls of people deceased go running riot or something, but then on All Souls’ Day, everyone has to go back home, either to hell or heaven. no more fun roaming around. I should know better having been brought up as a Catholic, but sadly, I don’t: I tend to tune out when my mother started spouting all that supertitious baloney. I’m a bad child, I know.
I also found out, via a BC colleague’s blog (Cat), that it is NaBloPoMo month. For those of you who have non-cyber lives (I’m so tempted to say ‘real’), there was some sort of National Novel Written in a Month (NaNoWriMo) competition way back sometime - not sure when. I think it was a North American thing - so now November has one for the blog.
Because of my general sado-masochistic tendencies, I’ve decided to give it a shot. God knows I’ve got more than enough crap to spout for a month. I just have to make sure I do it everyday, in the form of a blog post. Here’s the first!
Before I finish, some cool things I found via Boing Boing website - Neil Gaiman’s excellent advice on creating a literary will. He’s wanting people to pass this on and get it out to as many artists as possible after an author friend of his passed away and he witnessed just how much trouble it caused his loved ones. It’s good for the US but might need refining for us outside the States.
This last link is just fun - a blog on parasites, complete with cartoon illustrations. It’s by a med student who happens to have some skill drawing and being somewhat amusing (some people have all the luck! Grrr…). What an excellent premise for a blog.
Which reminds me, I must revive Snarkattack in its snarking form. Perhaps one post a week, albeit smaller than the essay-size ones could be something to aim for. In other completely unrelated news, I’m going to a consort evening tonight and will get to play some early music on the good old viola da gamba.
(note: I’ve yet to retransfer the MB post with the photo of my gamba but it is still viewable here but hopefully not for long as I transfer all posts here)
