about the weather!

I recall reading on a NaBloPoMo participant’s blog that no one should have an excuse to blog about the weather. Well, I’m about to break that rule.

It’s late spring in Melbourne, Australia so rain is to expected. As is hot and heady days (25-30 C mid-month onwards). Yesterday was 15 C. That’s a typical winter’s day here. But the exciting bit? We had hail - not just ordinary hail but hail almost the size of moth balls.

Now, if that sort of weather commentary is still boring, you clearly have no pulse. The greenery of the backyard was covered with these balls and it was cold enough for them not to melt.

As I later on found out earlier this morning. Dear Puss was freaked out as we’d had a little thunder (pets tend to hate that) so my mother and I were taking turns reassuring Puss. Parents went to bed before 1am and him and I are sitting in the sunroom. All throughout the day we had hail. It had got into the gutters and apparently wasn’t melting very quickly.

At around 1am I hear this tap, tap, tap, tap. Puss is all scared and I tell him it’s just hail hitting the gutter. Ah how wrong I was, an d how poor my eyesight is. The tapping gradually becomes more rapid. Then I start to hear pouring water.

The sunroom has sprung a leak! A mad shuffle ensues and of course by the time I fetch a bucket to catch the stream, it’s back to a drip. Our sunroom is an extension and obviously not sealed as well as it should have been (my mother has this pig-headed habit of insisting that people of her race are employed wherever possible even if their skills are not…perfect. She made me dump my driving instructor because another Filipino told her this other one was better when he turned out to be an absolute moron - I couldn’t go for my licence on the required day because he forgot appropriate documentation).

But to other things: my sleeping pattern is stuffed. I’m fairly nocturnal at present. Very annoying though I tend to get a lot more work done. I’m hoping to make it into uni tomorrow for my volunteering stint but it’s going to be difficult given the rest of the week’s bad track record waking up very late.

Today has otherwise been pretty uneventful - minus one delightful surprise. I got a letter in the mail! Personal letters are so nice to receive, and rare too. The stationery was so cute! It was from a sweet friend in Seattle (hello! you know who you are!). I wrote my reply immediately and got so engrossed that I forgot to pick up my meds again - not good! Especially as I’ve run out of anti-depressants and the mood stabilisers, the latter of which I need to get a new prescription for. Thank goodness I have the foresight to stash emergency uppers everywhere. I’ve got to lift my game though. Ugh. I hate going to see the doctor.
