a wonderful surprise

So yet again I awoke very, very late to an empty house. But then suddenly, I heard a car pull up. Oh shit! I better get up and at least look awake. Had breakfast and noticed two very large packages addressed to me, innocently sitting on the dining table. Little did I know what delights were in store.

Okay, I lie a little. I knew what was in the bigger box: some lip stuff and an eyeshadow palette from magic Sephora - a lovely lady helped get me these items as they aren’t available in Australia.

The other package I wrongly assumed was a book for review for Blogcritics. After romping near the windowsill with dear Puss for a good while, I opened the package.

Penguin Classic paperbacks. Hmm. I don’t recall requesting any such items…

Brand new copies of Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (O, you will be pleased no doubt) and Thackerey’s Vanity Fair. Aha! Someone actually reads my blog. Well, I know a few friends do at least. A quick flick through the books and at last I see that it’s from my friend Rob!

I swear I’m not materialistic (though I do use makeup shopping as my ‘crutch’) - it was more the thought that someone took the time to do something nice for me.

It was very encouraging. I decided to stop moping and wrote a good deal of a review done, so I’m confident that tomorrow will be a better day, having risen from the doldrums. Plus, I have a new book to begin! I’m in the mood for Pride and Prejudice, so it’ll be a pleasant read.

I did also get a text message on my mobile phone from another friend, so perhaps I’m not as forgotten as I think I am. A bad habit of mine when I’m down, assuming that there’s no one.
