Saturday night miscellany

I’m actually revelling in the fact that I have nothing to do on a Saturday night and just spent most of the day in bed being lulled to sleep by Anner Bylsma’s recording of the complete Bach cello suites…oh my god, can you spell bliss? I need to add more of my classical music to our home server. I specifically ripped the cello suites for Rob (he’s a cellist) as we were having a discussion about the different recordings available (he likes Pablo Casals’ version which I’ve only heard bits and pieces of).

It’s about 11.30pm and I’ve really just started my day…bad I know. I’m now listening to John Tejada’s Logic Memory Center (fantastic minimal house/techno) and have been watching some very expertly done videos on YouTube of a dear friend showing her superlative makeup prowess - I seem very fortunate in that I know a fair few ladies who happen to be really brainy and cultured, and are crazy-talented when it comes to applying makeup. The link is here. I’ve just been giggling over her tutes on makeup addiction and the like (L, C, Anya, Tash, Ash - you may want to check them out and subscribe, they really are very good).

The day began innocently enough with a visit from a friend and his kitten! Squee! KITTEN! She is teensy. The neighbour puss was meowing oh-so loudly at my balcony door to be let in and even gave the greeting meow a few times, but kitten wasn’t allowed near him. Felt so sorry for neighbour puss, it was a bit cold and drizzly outside. He was definitely very intrigued by visitor-kitten, who eventually fell asleep near the window. I’m glad she seemed relatively calm in my living space, kitties are not known for their ability to adjust to new surroundings.

What else will I do this evening? This week I received an erotic novel trilogy written by Anne Rice under a pseudonym - the series is the Beauty series - am two-thirds of the way through the first one. I’m under instructions to lend these to K when I finish with them.

May also try out some fantastic BPAL decants I got from my big sis in Sydney - holy cow, I can’t believe she sent me samples of Hellion and La Fee Verte. These are no longer available and you could only purchase them with these big-arse statues (I believe?). Am I spoilt or what? She also included some cute Hawaii-themed Hello Kitty post-it notes and a sample of The Different Company’s Osmanthus. I’m so tempted to send the post-it notes to Ash because I know how much she loves HK.

The reason I could afford to waste away the day is I’m not working next Monday or Tuesday and the insomnia thing was really starting to exhaust me. I just hope I wake up early enough to take Rob beer shopping - a belated birthday present! I think it will be heaps of fun though.

Yesterday after having dinner at the neighbours’ place, I managed to annoy Rob for the first time. Turns out he is not so fond of Freudian readings of Lord of the Rings. We were watching some of the second film The Two Towers and all my literary modernist theory came flooding back to me…but yes, I’m apparently under instruction not to mention sexuality and LotR in the same sentence again in front of Rob (incidentally, I prefer the anti-industrial readings of the book anyway, Rob).
